Yakuza Spin-Off Won’t Launch With English Dub

No English Dub for Upcomin Yakuza Game’s Initial Release

The Yakuza spin-off, “Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name,” will not offer an English dub language option upon its initial release, but an update will be provided later to incorporate this feature.

Players excited to experience the new English voice actor for the long-standing protagonist, Kiryu Kazuma, will need to exercise some patience. When the game launches on November 9, it will exclusively feature Japanese audio paired with English subtitles.

The news of this temporary omission was shared by Yong Yea, who is set to take over the role of Kiryu from Darryl Kurylo for the first time in “Like a Dragon Gaiden.” This transition was met with mixed reactions from fans. Yong Yea’s announcement, made a few weeks before the game’s release, did not specify the exact release date for the English dub option.

Yong Yea’s statement regarding the matter was, “Since ‘Like A Dragon: Gaiden’ is just a few weeks away, and many may not be aware of this, I thought I should inform you that the English dub will not be available on the November 9 launch date and will instead be introduced through a post-launch patch.”

For fans awaiting a proper sequel, “Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth,” which is often regarded as Yakuza 8 despite the series’ name change, is set to launch on January 26, offering an English dub option according to its Steam page.

“Like a Dragon Gaiden” serves as a digital-only side story to “Yakuza: Like a Dragon” (also known as “Yakuza 7”). It follows the journey of Kiryu, rather than the series’ new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, who assumed the central role after the events of “Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.”
