Pokemon Collab with Van Gogh Museum Attracts Scalpers

Pokemon and the Van Gogh Museum Have a New Challenge to Face

The Pokemon and Van Gogh Museum collaboration has opened in Amsterdam. The event features Pokémon-inspired interpretations of some of Van Gogh’s most famous works. There is also some exclusive merchandise available for purchase. However, the opening day of the event has brought out droves of scalpers to the venue’s gift shop, keen to grab as much of the exclusive collaboration as possible while stocks last. A video shared on Twitter shows the shop’s interior flooded by crowds of people after the collaboration prints, plushies, and cards:

The Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat card, which is inspired by Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat, has been listed on eBay more than 100 times. The prices for the card range from $100 to $1,500. In addition to the eBay listings, the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat card can also be found on Etsy. The card features Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat and can be personalized with a message or left blank.

It is worth noting that while the video caption explicitly refers to those being filmed as “scalpers,” it is uncertain whether all those in attendance were after a profitable resale. The collaboration runs until January 7th, 2024. If you are not able to make it to Amsterdam but still want to get involved with the exclusive merchandise, many of the items can be found on the Pokémon Centre online store, including the Pikachu plush, figurines, tote bags, and more. However, it is uncertain how much merchandise will be left after the opening day. It is expected that the crowds will quieten down over the coming months
