Tencent Now Majority Shareholder in Tequila Works

Tencent Now Has a Majority Stake in Tequila Works

The Chinese tech giant Tencent now has a majority stake in Tequila Works. Tequila Works is a Spanish developer best known for their game Rime.

Tequila Works CEO Raul Rubio had this to say:

“For 12 years, the teams at Tequila Works have passionately crafted high-quality titles that radiated our personal sensibilities. But there’s a limit to how much you can grow by yourself.”

Rubio also said Tencent is a “partner that can appreciate the value of top creative talent with originality as their banner. One that respects our independence and creative freedom. This partnership will allow us to focus on taking the original IPs we are known for to greater heights and create the best experiences we can dream of.”

Tencent is not well-liked amongst gamers. They have a tendency just to devour studies and take away their independence.

On the other hand, Tencent also allows smaller studies to flourish. Tequila Works will have far more resources than they ever had before. This could potentially be used to create bigger and better games. At the end of the day, games cost a lot of money to make, and they need more resources to make the games they want.

It will be interesting to see how Tencent acquiring a majority stake in Tequila  Works impacts their future games. We know they are currently working on Song of Nunu. Song of Nunu follows a young boy named Nunu and a yeti named Willump, where they solve puzzles and fight wolves.
