Wait for the perfect moment, and then strike. A key concept that the new gameplay trailer for, Flying Wild Hog’s upcoming action adventure game, Trek to Yomi shows off. The gameplay trailer, released today, showcases the black and white action of Trek to Yomi, in all of its samurai glory.
The game takes place in feudal Japan. According to Trek to Yomi’s website, “the young swordsman Hiroki is sworn to protect his town and the people he loves against all threats.”
The player will play as Hiroki. They will follow his story as he seeks to avenge his fallen master. Armed with a katana, Hiroki will embark on an adventure that will present him reflections of life, death, and himself.
From the trailer, the game appears to be a 3D side scroller. The combat looks fluid and brutal, with an importance on timing instead of just hack and slash. Additionally, the trailer shows off some different sword techniques as well as the use of a traditional bow and early firearms.
Equally as important, the gameplay footage gives players a view of the game’s setting. Despite being in black and white, the detail in the backgrounds that the trailer shows are beautiful. Rain drops hitting puddles. Trees swaying in a violent storm. Lightning arcing in the sky. These small details make the world, shown in the trailer, feel alive.
Furthermore, the trailer appears to give players a look at an antagonist of the game clad in full samurai armor.
With all of this in mind, players will have to use patience a bit longer. Trek to Yomi is to be released in the Spring of 2022. It will release on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One as well as being included in the Games Pass.
