Everyone Likes a Prequel… Right?
Frogwares is back with the Sherlock Holmes franchise that they have been curating since 2022, but this time they are going back to his beginnings with Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. They have recently announced that this game will be coming out in just a couple of months.
Frogwares has unveiled a trailer with the release date, but it has also shown us a deep dive into the gameplay. Like the more recent Sherlock games, Crimes and Punishments and The Devil’s Daughter, Chapter One is at its heart an investigation game, but gameplay-wise it is more like The Sinking City, Frogwares’ most recent game.
We are shown that Chapter One is a more open experience than its predecessors. In addition to the main cases Sherlock will be solving in Cordona, there will be many side quests and cases to solve. There will also be more intense conflicts resulting in actual combat, also like what fans may have played in The Sinking City. Sherlock will be able to use his environment to weaken and incapacitate enemies to bring them to justice without killing them.
Sherlock will be accompanied by “Jon”, who is definitely not Watson, but seems to be an imaginary friend. Ignoring Jon or making decisions that he does not like will affect your relationship with him.
The Holmes’ family mansion will act as Sherlock’s base of operations. It will start out as a rundown house, but as the player progresses, it will be restored to its former glory.
Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on November 16, but for some reason, the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be released afterward.
