Touhou Hyouibana ~ Antinomy of Common Flowers Locks Onto Nintendo Switch and PS4

The Girls of the Iconic Bullet Hell Franchise are Now Ready For 2D Tag-Team Combat

Touhou Project is one of those series that lives and dies by its fans. The fandom has contributed everything from fan games to highly detailed animations to entire characterizations for the sprawling cast of magical girls (and one boy who doesn’t fight). Touhou Hyouibana ~ Antinomy of Common Flowers goes one step further and incorporates the fan-made English translation into its official release. We wish all video game developers, publishers, and creators were as chill about their fans’ attempts to make the community larger and more welcoming. Though not all fans are as nice and productive as these guys. Anyway, Touhou Hyouibana takes nineteen iconic magical girls and gives them nineteen stages around Gensokyo to have spell card battles in–to a backdrop of stunning tunes.

In this fighting game, one button combined with a joystick direction is enough to execute dashes, throws, barriers, and those flashy bullet hell spells that make Touhou Project Touhou Project. It sounds simple, and it is, but that doesn’t stop Touhou Hyouibana from having a deceptively deep fighting system full of intricate combos and advanced techniques. Easy to learn, difficult to master–that’s the rule of this game. According to the press release, the 15.5th game in the series also presents “a story created with the supervision of series creator ZUN with a soundtrack featuring arrangements of beloved tracks by him and other composers from the Touhou franchise.”

Sounds awesome to us. The zany stories and entrancing music are as important to the Touhou Project franchise as the cute girls and the bullet hell elements.
