The Reunion Tour We’ve All Been Dreaming Of
The King of Fighters XV set out the shatter all expectations, and we can now safely say that they’ve succeeded. There are few team lineups more memorable than that of Team Sacred Treasures: fiery protagonist Kyo Kusanagi, obsessive, murderous Iori Yagami, and calm, serious Chizuru Kagura. The three of them are the heirs to three ancient clans who once worked together to seal the wicked god Orochi… and promptly fell apart when their common enemy was gone, a pattern which has continued well into the present. Graceful and reserved Chizuru is introduced in her character trailer already smacking around her teammates, which–let’s be honest here–they almost certainly deserved. What else are you supposed to do when the boys your plan depends on keep trying to kill each other? At least she still looks amazing.
The press release describes Chizuru’s fighting style as resembling: “traditional Japanese dancing, while her access to the Kagura Style of Ancient Martial Arts allows her to seal away her opponent’s abilities.” It also claims that she’s once again overcome the enmity between Iori and Kyo and convinced them to team up in hopes of figuring out what’s going on with Verse. This is the trio who personally re-sealed Orochi back in KOF 97, and their reunion now implies that the seal on this divine being is weakening once more. Can they save the world once again? Definitely. The real question is whether or not they can avoid killing each other in the process. Maybe the upcoming anime short will explain more.
Will the new Hero Team have anything to do with this? We’ll have to wait and find out, but yeah, probably.
The King of Fighters XV is expected to come out in 2021 on undisclosed platforms.
