The world is divided politically, economically, socially, and technologically. The game-gap is substantial. There are gaming platforms that can run at an almost limitless framerate, but there are far too many machines that are struggling to pull in 30 frames per second! The disparity has gone on for long enough! There are new consoles slowly getting into the hands of gamers, but not quickly enough. As we are painfully aware, it is so hard to get a hold of a PS5 or Xbox Series X. Xbox boss Phil Spencer spoke with Major Nelson about the console shortages.

The Xbox Series X and S have been out for almost two months now, but as expected, there are still so many hungry customers going without them, such as your ol’ pal Zane. If you are in the same boat as me, it may or may not be any consolation that Xbox is working as hard as it can to make these consoles and ship them as fast as they can. On Major Nelson’s podcast, Phil Spencer talked about the production of these machines, saying “It’s really just down to physics and engineering. We’re not holding them back: we’re building them as fast as we can. We have all the assembly lines going. I was on the phone last week with Lisa Su at AMD, ‘how do we get more?’ So it’s something that we’re constantly working on.”

Basically, they are doing everything that can physically be done with their resources. There is also the matter of scalpers, which is causing Spencer to consider new ways of getting products to actual customers: “I do think it’s going to push us to think about new models. It could be, reserve your slot. It could be doing things more direct with the customer. Still could have the retailer fulfill the order, but just so people can have more clarity on when they can get a console. It’s something we’re working on.” Hopefully, there will be a wave of new consoles coming out soon for all of us.
