It’s Like Final Fantasy Had a Baby With Demon’s Souls
I don’t have a clue what this game is about, but holy crap, does it look good. Admittedly, most of the footage in the trailer looks to be from pre-rendered cutscenes, but it is gorgeous. Last week, N Pixel released the official trailer for Chrono Odyssey, a “Spacetime Epic Fantasy MMORPG” as they put it. It’s got a kind of If-Dark-Souls-Was-Anime feel to it. There are monstrous castles and fortresses, armies of giant creatures and undead warriors, and 1v1 battles with dragons and demons, but also has charming and handsome characters.
If you watch the trailer and are skeptical, you are not alone. There are many MMORPGs out there that have beautiful cinematics, but lackluster in-game visuals. There is a sequence in the trailer that does appear to show in-game combat, which still looks really good. It appears to play a lot like a Souls game, with carefully timed blocks, strikes, and evades against a huge beast. It also contains imagery of a lot of Final Fantasy games that use beautiful, swirling spells and blasts of magic, as well as cataclysmic, world ending events.
N Pixel released another MMORPG earlier this year called Gran Saga, so we might not see Chrono Odyssey out for a while. There is no release date set yet for Chrono Odyssey, but N Pixel is expecting it to come out on PC, mobile devices, and “next-gen” platforms.
