The Serious Sam Collection Delivers Pure Mayhem on Launch

Three Legendary Action Games Forged Into One

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know we like the Serious Sam franchise. Slick action, nice character designs, a story that–ironically–doesn’t take itself too seriously? That’s a recipe for a good time. One might even call it a seriously good time, which is what we called Serious Sam 4 when we reviewed it. So when we found out that the Serious Sam Collection, a full remaster of the first three games in the series, was dropping today, we just had to talk about it. We’ll explode if we don’t. Yes, we are being serious right now. You know how action game physics work.

If you’ve never played Serious Sam before, the first thing you should do is take a look at this trailer. These games aren’t considered some of the most explosive classic shooters on the market for nothing. The original Serious Sam: The First Encounter changed the game for shooters forever, and you can still see the ripple effects of its explosive entry today. This is a piece of gaming history. It’s also a hilarious adventure about a guy trying to save the world from aliens through time travel, a lot of really big guns, and as many witty quips as you can ask for. Same goes for the second and third games, and this collection contains Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, and Serious Sam 3: BFE, along with the Legend of the Beast and Jewel of the Nile expansions. It’s the full package. So really, what are you waiting for?

But the Serious Sam Collection isn’t just a remaster–it’s an expansion. The new game supports versus and co-op multiplayer for up to 16 players, which is completely ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome! It also gives you 4-player split-screen local multiplayer on Xbox and PlayStation as well as 4-player versus and co-op modes on Switch. It also brings on several classic multiplayer modes, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and the stand-alone survival mode. Is there anything this game doesn’t do?

Yes, unfortunately. Because the Collection only contains the first three games, you can’t play Serious Sam 4 on it. Sorry gamers, you’ll have to buy that one separately. A little bird told us that Serious Sam 4 now has a PC collector’s edition with an artbook, a vinyl soundtrack, and a sculpture of Sam’s iconic minigun, so maybe give that a look.

The Serious Sam Collection is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
