Roblox are Celebrating the Ready Player Two Launch With an Egg Hunt

Ready to Log On?

Good news, book nerds: Today sees the release of Ready Player Two: The sequel to Ernest Cline’s smash hit novel Ready Player One. Like the first book, Ready Player Two sees protagonist Wade embroiled in a new treasure hunt – this time involving new technology which has great potential for both OASIS and the real world.

To celebrate the release of Ready Player Two, Roblox are introducing a Treasure Hunt event of their own, taking place over seven worlds – echoing the seven shards sought by both the heroes and villains of Ready Player Two. Luckily, considering the book’s synopsis claims that the mysterious prize sees the emergence of a villain willing to kill millions to get their hands on it, the prizes don’t seem to be lifechanging, but there are in-game items to earn.

This isn’t the first time that Roblox have held an event based on Ernest Cline’s works – they previously partnered with Warner Bros to promote the release of the adaptation of Ready Player One with an Easter Egg Hunt, an event that drew in some 13,000,000 new players. Given that the film was a massive success around the world, it’s not out of the question that the new event will bring in even more new players – especially since the game’s daily players have more than doubled from 12 million to 31.1 million since the first event was held.

At the moment, only the first world is available, but it looks like the event will begin in earnest on December 1st, when an Q+A between Ernest Cline and Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki will be presented in-game. Will we see some hints about where to search? If so, expect them to be cryptic, although unlike in Cline’s books, we’re not likely to be waiting years for a resolution.
