Transcend the Power of the Gods With Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s Second DLC

Guess Who’s Back. Back Again. Frieza’s Back. Tell a Friend.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is back in action with its DLC pack dropping tomorrow. If you strain your memory, you may recall that we already liked the base game and were pretty hyped about the first DLC, so we have high hopes for this expansion. And what an expansion it promises to be! The teaser trailer has already dropped, and it showcases some fantastic footage taken straight from a battle between SSGSS Vegeta and Golden Frieza. Goku is there too, because he’s Goku and we love him, but Vegeta and Frieza definitely steal the show this time around. Frieza especially is dripping with menace as he makes his grand return.

Also shown off in this trailer are Piccolo and Gohan, taking on the Ginyu Force to avenge the people of Namek, and the highlights of Goku and Vegeta’s stunning new transformation scene. Frieza may not be impressed by Super Saiyan Blue, but we definitely are. This DLC seems to be drawing on the events of Dragon Ball Super and Resurrection ‘F’, so if you want to get hyped, go watch either the show or the movie. We mean, you could watch both, but it might be hard to fit all that DBZ in one day.

Lead Producer Ryosuke Hara added some extra details on the official PlayStation blog, specifically regarding the new Horde Battle feature which will let you take on an overwhelming number of enemies at once. “As you can imagine, just taking the battle system from the base game and adding a bunch of enemies would not work…” Hara wrote, “and would not be much fun to play. So we’ve made several adjustments to the enemy AI, SFX, skills etc., in order to create a battle true to the original works, while making it enjoyable gameplay-wise.”

One example he gives is the Z Combination, a skill that will wipe out a number of foes at once–but that number depends on the combos you’ve been able to rack up before launching the skill. He also promises that the DLC, while based on the anime and movie, will contain a brand-new story influenced by the events of the game. We can’t wait to see what A New Power Awakens – Part 2 has in store!

DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
