Deathloop Lands May 21st Release Date

Live. Die. Repeat.

Deathloop – potentially the last (timed) PS5 exclusive from Bethesda following their recent acquisition by Microsoft – looks like it’ll be a lot of fun. The game owes a lot to the Dishonored franchise, as you take the role of an assassin with mysterious powers. However, Deathloop steers clear of the Steampunk aspects of Dishonored in favor of the swinging sixties.

You take on the role of Colt, an assassin who wakes up on the shores of Blackreef Island – a former military base that was the site for scientific experiments. The island is now the home to a neverending party with no restraint due to a timeloop – no matter what happens, time is reset at midnight. Your goal, as Colt, is to end the timeloop for good by killing eight different targets across the island during the same day, learning their patterns and how to approach them. This may sound simple, but it’s made harder by Julianna – a rival operative who seeks to kill Colt to maintain the timeloop for good. Julianna can either be controlled by an AI or another player, adding a multiplayer twist that sounds as fun as it does potentially frustrating.

The May 21st release date may miss the obvious release date of February 2nd – Groundhog Day – by almost four months, but it does mean that we don’t have to wait too long to get our hands on it. The release date was found thanks to a PlayStation Store listing for both the standard and deluxe editions for the game, which includes the pre-order bonuses: the Royal Protector Machete (PS5 Exclusive), the Storm Rider skin, and a trinket. The deluxe edition gives more weapons, skins for both Colt and Julianna, two more trinkets, and a copy of the soundtrack, so it may be well worth the upgrade.
