Release Date Is Still TBA
Starbreeze Studios gave a bit of an update a couple of days ago into their progress on the next Payday game. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions for the last couple of years. A little under a year ago, Starbreeze Studios announced that they would be returning to Payday 2 to sell more content in hopes to stay in business and fund their next game. Well, that campaign of additional DLC came to an end this past Summer and now they appear to be officially moving on to Payday 3.
In a not-so cryptic tweet from the Payday Twitter account, we see someone in a half-mask sitting at a computer all hacker-like. The caption on the image says “ACCESS: PAYDAY TWITTER MAN MEMBER COUNT: 100,000 REQUEST RECEIVED, ACCESSING CRIMENET… CONNECTING… ONLINE. TIME: 13:37 STATUS PAYDAY 3” It also has a checklist of sorts; Confirmed [check], Design Phase [check], Release Date TBA [check], and Unreal Engine [check]. That tells us quite a bit on Payday 3’s progress. It is much too soon to talk about a release window, but they are somewhere in the game design phase and have selected the Unreal Engine to build their game in.
Payday 2 was built on the Diesel 2.0 engine, but we know how the Unreal Engine feels from playing other games. Starbreeze also strategically held off on a release window. The future is uncertain and it would be unwise to throw out a date that they might not be able to meet. Payday 3 is expected to come out in the next 3 or 4 or more years.
When do you think we will be playing Payday 3? Let us know in the comments below.
