Should I Finally Try It?
Remember when Assassin’s Creed Unity came out? That was six years ago. I don’t know about anyone else, but for me, that game marked the beginning of an era in which so many triple A games were coming out broken. I was super interested in the Assassin’s Creed games, but needed catching up. That all changed when Unity came out. Now that I am actually going back to all the AC games, it appears I can look forward to playing it now that Assassin’s Creed Unity can run at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X.
The folks at Digital Foundry got their hands on an Xbox Series X and decided to run some tests. Bear in mind, the version of the game they ran the tests on was the disc version, without the patches that helped the frame rate. They compared the frame rate of Assassin’s Creed Unity on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X. Both on PS4 and Xbox One, the game would usually run at a frame rate in the 20s, sometimes hitting 30 in the sequences where the game demanded less from the CPU and GPU. Xbox One X could kick it up to around 40 FPS, but would still fluctuate at time. Digital Foundry’s footage captured from Xbox Series X was clocked and locked at 60 FPS regardless of what was on screen.
Assassin’s Creed Unity started development before Ubisoft could really understand the scope of Xbox One and PS4, and judging by how the game ran, they may have overshot it with the specs AC Unity really needed. Now, there will not be very many people who pick up the physical copy of Assassin’s Creed Unity and then play it on Xbox Series X to unlock that 60 FPS. Digital Foundry also talks about all the details of what was so demanding of the GPU and CPU from Assassin’s Creed Unity. Assassin’s Creed Unity is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
