This Ain’t No Mushroom Kingdom… This is L.A.
After cleaning up the beaches of Isle Delfino and going on an intergalactic adventure, Mario has turned his attention to the City of Angels – Los Angeles – and has brought his friends along for the ride. With Blue Shells in hand, players can race through the beach, streets, and boardwalk of the popular tourist destination – Santa Monica Pier – as they compete for 1st Place in the newly released Los Angeles Tour.
Mario Kart Tour was released on September 25th, 2019 for Android and iOS devices. It is the first mobile port of the hit Kart Racing franchise and features a wide assortment of characters from the Nintendo universe including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and Toad (among others) with additional characters (and variants) joining the roster with each subsequent Tour; King Bob-omb, Nabbit, and Monty Mole are but a few of the latest Drivers to be added to the game. Players can unlock additional Drivers, Karts, and Gliders by:
- Opening Tour Gifts – obtainable by earning Grand Stars (clearing Cups and completing Challenges)
- Redeeming Rubies to activate the Tour Pipes (5 Rubies for 1 item OR 45 Rubies for 10 items)
- Purchasing Special Offers (requires credit card)
The Los Angeles Pipe 1 – which appears for 14 days – adds Mario (Sunshine) Driver, Surf Sailer Kart, and Starchute Glider; items obtained from the Tour Pipes are completely random and players are not guaranteed to unlock the Spotlight offerings. The Los Angeles Pipe 2 will appear during the final 7 days of the Tour; adding another Driver, Kart, and Glider to the mix; previous High-End ones might return as well.
Players can also complete NEW Challenges to earn Badges including the Gold Challenges (must be a Gold Pass Subscriber) and the Expert Challenges which will really test their driving skills. Multiplayer is also available – players can compete with Friends or with other nearby players.
Players can download Mario Kart Tour from the App Store or Google Play Store for FREE with optional in-app purchases; a stable internet connection is required to play – game is not playable offline. The Los Angeles Tour runs from September 23rd, 2020 (2AM EST) until October 7th, 2020 (1:59AM EST) at which time Nintendo will release the next Tour – rinse and repeat.
