Immortals: Fenyx Rising Has Some Godly Narrators

Mythology Geeks Get Ready

Immortals: Fenyx Rising is an exciting new game, but a lot of people can’t get past the resemblance to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. While the developers are working hard to make the game stand on its own two feet, it looks like they’re taking things even further as they announced not one, but two narrators: Zeus and Prometheus.

Zeus is the king of the Gods, best known to Disney fans as a lighthearted thunder-bearer and to mythology geeks as someone who, quite simply, liked to have a good time. The Disney film took a lot of liberties, one of which is that Hercules was the result of one of Zeus’s many, many affairs. Prometheus, meanwhile, was a titan who stole fire from the gods and gifted it to humanity, and was punished by being chained to a mountain to have his liver pecked out by eagles, only to regrow every day.

The two characters have different viewpoints, with Prometheus being a fierce advocate of humanity and Zeus being more concerned with his own pleasures. The two watch the game’s events to settle a bet on its events, with Prometheus believing that Fenyx will overcome the challenges they face and Zeus thinking otherwise. On the line is Prometheus’s freedom, and you can expect plenty of bickering between the two, plus some mythological in-jokes that’ll get seasoned mythology nerds like myself chuckling like Trojan soldiers who really could not have believed that the Trojan Horse was working.

At this point we don’t know how many other Greek gods, if any, will turn up in Immortals: Fenyx Rising, a game with such a large focus on such a fascinating mythology is bound to feature more than a couple of familiar faces, and give players a deeper insight into the world of Greek Gods and Monsters.
