Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Gameplay Demo to be Shown at Gamescom

One Small Step for Lombax, One Giant Leap for Lombaxkind

One of the most exciting announcements of June’s PS5 Reveal Event was a new Ratchet and Clank game, bringing everyone’s favorite lombax and robot duo to the newest console dimension.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

When the game was revealed it made it clear that Insomniac’s attitude was Go Big or Go Home, with the most beautiful and intricately designed worlds ever seen in the series and some interesting new additions to gameplay, as well as a new playable character- an unknown female lombax Clank meets after being ripped (or rift if you’re nasty) from Ratchet. Our intergalactic heroes are doing their usual thing with the new addition of collapsing dimensions, with the game taking full advantage of the PS5’s power to seamlessly transition from riding a dragon through a vast city to fighting space pirates on a ship being attacked to a space kraken.

While we have seen gameplay before, part of the beauty of the franchise has always been the diverse environments on each planet, from lush jungles to thriving metropolises to toxic wastelands, so any new gameplay is always interesting. We could also potentially see some new weapons in Ratchet’s arsenal, which has previously included a sheepinator and an exploding disco ball. We’ve already seen the Topiary Sprinkler, which turns enemies into decorative hedges, so longtime fans of the franchise will no doubt be excited to see what other tricks has up his metaphorical sleeves.

The new gameplay will be revealed as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 27th. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart isn’t expected to be a launch title for the PS5, but given that we’re seeing a playable demo development might be a lot further along than we could have expected, and we could be seeing the duo sooner rather than later.
