Dead by Daylight Cross-Play on Its Way With Possible Exceptions

Cross-Progression, Cross-Play, and Cross-Friends

It has been over four years since Dead by Daylight has launched and it has dug into fans ever since. During the fourth anniversary stream, developer Behaviour Interactive outlined their plans to make Dead by Daylight a more unified experience. This will be tackled by implementing features that link gameplay and progression between each of the platforms. Cross-play, cross-friends, and cross-progression are the goals for Behaviour Interactive have set for themselves for the different platforms Dead by Daylight is supported on. They recently updated their fans on what it would look like to achieve success on those fronts and what obstacles they may encounter.

Cross-play is a concept that has been floating around and even achieved for many years now, but not all games have been able to implement it. Cross-friends is an extension of cross-play where players will be able to add other players to their friends list who play on other platforms. So an Xbox One player would be able to play with, add, and invite a player on Nintendo Switch or PC. Cross-progression is for players who often go back and forth between platforms. Instead of having to maintain two or more accounts, depending on how many platforms you use, cross-progression will allow one Dead by Daylight save to be shared and updated with all your platforms.

These features are very much akin to Xbox’s Play Anywhere games. However, Behaviour Interactive is the one making all the effort and for their one game, and it is pretty inspiring to see them do. Unfortunately, there may be some exceptions to their end-goal. The mobile version of Dead by Daylight likely will not benefit from these features since that version is just too different. Behaviour also say that “Exceptions might have to be made to accommodate for some external licensing needs,” so if you are looking forward to this, keep that in mind. Dead by Daylight is out now and available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and will be coming out for Stadia in September.
