It’s Unclear Why Nintendo Dropped One of its Biggest Youtubers

Frustratingly Perplexing

Recently, Nintendo dropped the Youtube channel BeatEmUps from its Nintendo Brand Ambassador program for… apparently no reason? Wood Hawker, the owner of the channel has grown to almost a million subscribers and is undoubtedly a prominent influencer within the Nintendo gaming community. He has been an upstanding guy throughout his entire career and his channel has shown strong growth, but Nintendo has dropped him with only very vague reasons.

Hawker has tried to contact Nintendo multiple times and has not received a clear answer. There are some information about Nintendo changing their Ambassador Program, but according to Hawker, none of the other Ambassadors have been dropped nor have they received any information on the program changing. So it really seems like they are making up lies to get him off their back.

Following, they stated that there are three reasons why Hawker might be dropped. 1. Lack of passion for Nintendo, 2. Lack of social media following, 3. Lack of quality or brand friendliness. The frustrating thing is, anyone could look at this guy’s channel and it’s obvious he should please all three criteria.

Now, the only thing that he has left is to speculate on what’s going on. He thinks that the only thing that could have set Nintendo off was perhaps his personality and things he likes to discuss such as advocacy and openness of mental health issues.

The thing is, Nintendo is free to do what they want to do with their program. But I believe it isn’t unreasonable to ask for a reason for being dropped, especially from something that is so important to a content creator’s career. Not only does Hawker deserve an answer, but so does the thousands of fans that have bought onto Nintendo thanks to him.
