RE3 Remake’s Nemesis Has a Major Connection to RE4

RE3 Remake’s Head Parasite Zombies Originated From RE4’s Virus

Capcom revealed in a recent interview with the official PlayStation Blog that Resident Evil 3’s hulking Nemesis shares a significant connection with the Ganados enemies of Resident Evil 4.

The remake’s version of Nemesis has a special ability that allows him to infect normal zombie enemies with a head parasite that uses a tentacle to attack players (similar to RE4’s Ganados). Fans have speculated that this new enemy type (called the NE-Alpha) was connected to the Ganados and Capcom confirmed this connection in the interview (which is pretty significant given the current rumor about a Resident Evil 4 remake being in development).

Capcom said that it wanted Nemesis to be more of a threat in the remake so the developer team brainstormed new abilities for him. The team eventually decided to give Nemesis the ability to infect enemies “due to the presence of Ganado in Resident Evil 4.”

Capcom explained that the NE-Alpha parasite originated from Ganados’ “Plagas” parasite and the NE-Alpha enemies were designed to look like the Ganados so that fans could connect the dots about Nemesis’ place in the franchise. However, this doesn’t mean that the original Nemesis was meant to have an RE4 connection, according to Capcom.
