It’s On the Radar
The long-running indie hit Warframe has swept across the gaming community in the last couple of years, and have now been ported over across all platforms, most recently coming to the Switch. With Players having dedicated years into their accounts, many are asking the same thing: cross-play and cross-save.
Recently, on Warframe’s dev stream, Digital Extremes have finally spoken about the issue, and potentially hinting at the difficulties surrounding the issue. “We don’t really have anything to say about cross-save. Don’t have anything great to talk about that right now but definitely know that was something that you would value in the game and as I’ve said in the past, we’ve done some research on that. I don’t think there’s a heck of a lot of code written to support that currently but it definitely is something that we want to adapt.”
It seems like there is a lot more to cross-save than it seems to a layman. For us, it seems like porting over saves from one system to another sounds like uploading a save file to the cloud, but if we are to go from the statement, it seems like there needs to be some complex infrastructure in place to make that work. Especially with all these different consoles running on different codes, it probably requires some solid communication between all these different serves while using different languages. This is also especially difficult when you imagine how quickly someone might want to jump from playing on their Switch and on to their PC once they get home. It’s also something you want to make sure is air-tight. Can you imagine losing progress on an account you’ve been honing for years?
The good news is that they do realize the demand behind it, and that they are looking into it. We don’t know when the deadline will be, or if they have it in their horizons, but it’s good to hear that they are thinking about the issue. A little communication really does go a long way to help us understand. Thanks, DE!
