Just Watch It
Before we break down this trailer, watch it for yourself. You can find it below. I like to think I know quite a lot about the story and lore of Final Fantasy VII, but there are things in this trailer that I was surprised to see. There are both expanded characters from the original and brand new ones, and we get a brief look at them, as well as the main characters. As we are one week from the game’s release, this will be the last trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake we see.
The trailer begins with some intimate moments between Aerith and Cloud, as well as flashbacks to Cloud and Tifa’s past. This trailer bounces around a lot. Fans who are not very familiar with the story may get confused about things. Oh, and the motorcycle sequence. It drips with Advent Children. One of the more surprising things is that there are flashbacks to Cloud’s time in the Shinra army and the Nibelheim incident. While these events take place before the game, they are not really revealed until a later point than what this Remake covers. This suggests that some things are going to be moved around to build the drama of the story a bit more.
Something else that the trailer reveals regards Sephiroth. In the original game, he is not seen directly in what the Remake’s story covers. Not only do we see him, but there is a sequence that resembles events that take place later in the original game in the Northern Crater. These changes are likely made to create more definitive endings for each chapter of the Remakes. Final Fantasy VII Remake will be out on April 10th exclusively on PS4.
