Double KO
This is a story about two pro gamers being examples of toxic competitors in a gaming community. A few days ago, Capcom Fighters made the decision to ban two pros for online exchanges of offensive language. The two pros are Dalauan “LowTierGod” Sparrow and Christina “Ceroblast” Tran. The exchange began on April 16th, after an exhibition match between the two. After LowTierGod lost the match to Ceroblast, he began a transphobic rant on his stream, and Ceroblast is a trans person. This led to LowTierGod’s banning from major fighting game tournaments including EVO, CEO, and Combo Breaker.
That is not where things end. A few days after Sparrow’s ban, instances of Tran using racial slurs during their streams and other racially charged comments on Twitter began surfacing. In poor defense of their comments, Tran said that “black culture” was the root of the problem, which just made things worse. This prompted Capcom to indefinitely ban the two from all of their competitions and events. LTG has a history of using provocative language, including rants telling someone to “kill yourself”, but evidently, Ceroblast also has a history of their own, lousy with slurs.

Nobody came out of this looking good. Maybe Capcom did, but they just did what was expected. It is a good thing that pro gaming organizers and promoters are holding their players accountable for the things they do and say, but we should not have to have examples like these to know what not to do. Be like the vast majority of us and don’t be a d*ckhead. Inb4 author gets fired for saying d*ckhead.
Do you think Capcom took the appropriate measures? Let us know in the comments below.
