Sega Teases Something New For Its 60th Birthday

Is That Segata Sanshiro???

Sega is celebrating its 60th birthday next week. This is a major milestone, which means they have to do something cool, right? At least, thatโ€™s what this teaser image suggests. Sega released said teaser earlier this week, leading to a healthy dose of speculation and curious possibility.

Sega 60th Birthday

Letโ€™s break it down. Thereโ€™s our boy Segata Sanshiro striking a fighting pose. Thereโ€™s some text which roughly translates to โ€œSix Days Until Birth.โ€ Thereโ€™s also some acknowledgment that weโ€™re arriving at the 60th anniversary. And thatโ€™s pretty much it, really. Not a lot to go on, sure. But itโ€™s enough to let us know that good things (of some sort) are on their way. But what could they be?

One possible answer is a new Virtua Fighter game. Or maybe weโ€™ll get yet another mini console? Whatever success Sega found with the last one, it was an excellent machine, one that employed proper emulation and a pretty enviable selection of titles. Or we could be getting a mascot-friendly crossover title. Sanshiro was the face of Sega during the 90โ€™s after all. Maybe this new project takes advantage of that. One thingโ€™s for sure, we donโ€™t have long to wait. This teaser was posted on the 19th, so we get our answers by Wednesday.
