Stay Over There!
COVID-19 is affecting lives all over the world. It takes victims every day and today, it took away Final Kombat 2020 from us. Not entirely, thankfully. While many conventions have been hit with reduced guest lists or been straight up cancelled because of the Coronavirus, NetherRealm’s live event can still carry on, just without the live aspect. In a tweet, NetherRealm Studios released an image of an email sent out to ticket holders. Final Kombat was and still will be an event where Mortal Kombat 11 players compete in a tournament, as well as premier the new Spawn gameplay trailer and Mortal Kombat: Scorpion’s Revenge red band trailer.
The message partly reads: “Due to escalating concerns and cautions around COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we have made the difficult decision to no longer host a live audience at Final Kombat 2020, scheduled for this Sunday, March 8th, at Chicago’s Park West theater […] If you purchased a ticket, do not show up to the venue. Your ticket will be fully refunded. Only the top 16 players competing in the Final Kombat 2020 tournament and staff will be admitted to these events.” There was a Last Chance Qualifier that was meant to take place today in Skokie, Illinois, but that has also been cancelled for the same reasons.

Thankfully, everyone interested in Final Kombat can still watch every bit of it live on all Mortal Kombat and NetherRealm channels including Twitch, YouTube, Steam, Facebook, Twitter, and Mixer. Guests such as Todd McFarlane and Keith David were announced to be part of Final Kombat, but it is unclear as to whether or not they will still have a role in the event. Mortal Kombat 11 is available now on PC, Stadia, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
