Resident Evil 3 Remake Will Apparently Be Sans Mercenaries Mode

Make Way for the Resistance

Following up last year’s Resident Evil 2 Remake will be a big challenge for Capcom this year. Even though Resident Evil 3 Remake has been anticipated pretty much since the RE2 Remake was announced, there is some news that may disappoint some fans. The game type The Mercenaries was introduced to the series in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in 1999. Unfortunately, this mode will reportedly not be returning in the 2020 Remake of the game. This was mentioned in PlayStation Official Magazine UK this month.

Resident Evil 3 Remake

The Mercenaries mode varies slightly from game to game, but the general objective is to run through a level and kill as many enemies as possible in the shortest amount of time. There was no official reason given as to why this mode is not coming back this time around, but some speculate that it is because Resident Evil: Resistance will be included in the game. Even so, because Resident Evil 2 has both Claire and Leon as playable characters and Resident Evil 3 only has Jill, it almost seems like it will be half of last year’s game. It is puzzling why Capcom would not make The Mercenaries a playable mode.

Perhaps The Mercenaries will make it’s way into the game via a free content update or paid DLC. Resident Evil 3 Remake will be out on April 3rd on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
