It’s an Oddworld After All
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD came out on the Nintendo Switch just over a week ago. The portable console seems like a magnet for older games, so a fifteen year old Stranger’s Wrath fit pretty well. You can check out our review of it. But way back when Oddworld Inhabitants announced that Stranger’s Wrath HD would be coming out, they also said that two other Oddworld games would receive the same HD remaster treatment. Now it appears one of those is the previous game in the series Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee HD.
ESRB just rated Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee HD for the Nintendo Switch. Munch’s Oddysee came out in 2001 on Xbox and PC, then on PS3 in 2012, and PS Vita in 2014. Stranger’s Wrath HD got a 68 from COGconnected, and that was 15 years old. It will be interesting to see what kind of score a 19 year old game gets. If it doesn’t do too well, at least it’s old enough to grab a drink in Canada. It also isn’t quite as action oriented as Stranger’s Wrath. Though there is a fair amount of action, there is also more of a puzzle-solving component to it.
Two Oddworld games preceded Munch’s Oddysee; Abe’s Oddysee in 1997, and Abe’s Exoddus in 1998. Abe’s Oddysee was remade as New N’ Tasty! in 2014, and Abe’s Exoddus is meant to be remade as Soulstorm and is slated for a 2020 release. No release date is set for Munch’s Oddysee HD, but will be coming out on the Nintendo Switch.
What do you think the next HD Oddworld game will be? New N’ Tasty! or Soulstorm? Let us know in the comments below.
