Weird West Is Devolver’s ‘Cowboys, But Crazy’ Game

All That I Never Knew I Wanted

Late last week, Devolver Digital and WolfEye Studios dropped an announcement trailer for Weird West, a bizarre western title soaked in eldritch horror. In case your mind literally refused to register that last one, I’ll run it by again: we’re getting a Western action RPG with heavy cult and eldritch horror elements from the good people at Devolver Digital. Not out in time for Christmas, still feels like a present. What a world we live in!

The trailer, embedded below, gives a rough idea of what we’re in for. WolfEye is staffed by devs from Dishonored and Prey, if you were curious about the pedigree in action here. Further investigation reveals werewolves, cultists, and stories shaped by important player decisions. Plus, one assumes the presence of massive six-shooters, given it’s a Western game.

In particular, those choices seem critical. The Steam page states that “Each journey is unique and tailored to the actions taken – a series of high stakes stories where everything counts and the world reacts to the choices you make.” This could mean the presence of a complex set of decision trees, or the usual binary nonsense. Only time will tell.
