Half-Life: Alyx Could Be Coming to PlayStation VR

Valve is Teasing the Idea of Making the Jump to PlayStation

Half-Life: Alyx has taken the gaming world by storm. The long-awaited return of the Half-Life series has been something that gamers have dreamed about for more than a decade. While many were not expecting to see the triumphant return of the franchise as a VR game, it has still made a ton of folks content and excited for what is to come. However, unfortunately for console players, Half-Life: Alyx is going to be a Steam exclusive which means it will be only playable on PC. But recent findings could be pointing towards Valve showing interest in releasing their coveted game on PlayStation VR as well.

Half-Life: Alyx

Valve designer Greg Coomer said in a sit down with Push Square that while they were very much dialed in on making sure everything for the Steam version of the game was top-notch, that a PlayStation version of the game is not out of the question. “Sony’s VR platform has been a huge success for the medium, and we assume that lots of Sony customers would love to experience this new chapter of Half-Life”, said Coomer.

It appears that they will not be seeing a console version of Alyx anytime soon. But it could happen at a later date. Much like Half-Life 2, it started as a PC exclusive before it was eventually released in the Orange Box bundle for console. This seems like the most likely path to take if anything does eventually materialize.

It has become quite common for games to be released “exclusively” on one platform only for it be released for other consoles later on down the road. This is definitely a very real possibility. Half-Life: Alyx is going to be an absolute sensation. Expanding the reach of their game is in Valve’s best interest.
