Customization is Key
A new update has just been released for Fortnite and it will now allow players to create their own battle royale game modes. You and 15 other people can all duke it out on a private island with your very own rules and other stipulations. The changes you can make within your very own island are by no means game-breaking, but it is a nice touch and it will be interesting to see what the community comes up with. It’s very reminiscent of Halo 3’s Forge.
Once you find yourself on your own island you will be able to make a handful of tweaks and changes. You can alter the amount of gravity, weapons and other things throughout the world. If you want a game were the only available weapon is a rocket launcher you can definitely do that. This is very similar to Playground mode but with a little more options than before. It is a nice touch in a game that focuses so much on creativity and spontaneousness.
Games are usually the most fun when the community is very involved. Whether that be through feedback or by having the ability to customize what they want to play. Battle Lab will certainly help do that. The most fun modes or matches tend to be community-made or inspired by the community in some way.
Hopefully, Epic Games has more ideas like this for Fortnite in the future. They have done a very good job of releasing new and fresh content for their game since it has launched, and the popularity of Fortnite reflects that. Always having original and exciting additions being added to your game will always keep a loyal fanbase around.
