They Still Sell Tons of Guns Though
Wal-Mart has decided to take down their violent video game displays and demos in the wake of the mass shooting that took place in El Paso, Texas. The shift in policy comes hot on the heels of critics calling for Wal-Mart to stop selling guns in all of their stores.
The new policy is designed to target and eliminate “any signing or displays that contain violent images or aggressive behavior.” The mass shooting in question took the lives of two Wal-Mart employees and a police officer. The move also comes hot on the heels of a fresh wave of criticism towards the entire games industry. It seems games are being blamed for violent behavior once again.
Counter-arguments have been made, suggesting that guns, not games, are at the root of America’s unique problems. Japan has tons of games and almost no mass murder, for example. Sorry. There have actually been two mass shootings at a Wal-Mart. The other one claimed 22 lives. Again, Wal-Mart’s response to this hellish crisis is to remove the violent video game displays in all of their stores. Only time will tell whether or not this makes even the slightest difference.
