Will We See PlayStation Games on the PC?
The Sony and Microsoft rivalry has been front and center within the gaming world for almost two decades. The Xbox and PlayStation have been going head to head in a competition to determine which is better. This is essentially the Coke and Pepsi rivalry but for video game nerds. However, despite the once tense and frosty relationship between Microsoft and Sony, both tech giants have seemed to relax a bit. Sony and Microsoft recently announced that they would be working together on creating an online streaming service. Something that would have been unthinkable only a few years ago. This new relationship has some hoping that it will lead to PlayStation games on PC.
“We must support the PlayStation platform — that is non-negotiable. That said, you will see in the future some titles coming out of my collection of studios which may need to lean into a wider installed base.” Said Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Shawn Layden. Layden was referring to the large and untapped PC audience that Sony would like to branch out to. While nothing is for certain it is good to see that this idea is at being considered is some regard.
With the growth of cross-platform games, imagining PS4 games on the PC is not all that difficult. Games like Rocket Leauge and Fortnite both offer cross-platform play to both the Xbox and PC. PUBG is another game that will be receiving this feature later this year between PlayStation and Xbox users.
Nintendo and Microsoft already have this sort of relationship that Sony is after. Microsoft has allowed a few of its exclusives to be released on the Nintendo Switch for instance. Which has benefited both companies greatly. Sony has undoubtedly seen this and now wants in.
