Star Wars Continues With Kenobi Series

Ewan McGregor: Return of the Jedi

The future of the Obi-Wan movie has been up in the air since Solo. Solo made $392.2 million compared to the $500 million it needed to break even. These were bad numbers compared to other Star Wars titles that were easily passing $1 billion. Solo‘s poor box office numbers put a stop to most Star Wars spinoffs, including the rumoured Kenobi-centric trilogy. No one was sure about the film’s future, or if there would even be a trilogy following the Jedi Master. However, a new hope has emerged on the horizon.

Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, is reportedly in talks with Ewan McGregor to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in an exclusive series. This is the latest in several Star Wars related content coming out on the platform including The Mandalorian and an untitled prequel to Rogue One following Cassian Andor and K-2SO. Additionally, Disney+ has also greenlit the seventh season of the fan-favourite Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series.

This would be a huge series for Disney on top of its already impressive lineup of Marvel series. Disney has already announced its Marvel line up which includes Loki, Hawkeye, WandaVision, and Falcon and Winter Soldier. With all these new series announced, Disney is making a play for Netflix’s position as streaming’s top dog.

As for McGregor, this will be his second television appearance after Fargo, which he won a Golden Globe for. McGregor has expressed interest in reprising his role as Obi-Wan before in press interviews. Hopefully, these talks with Disney+ will see him picking up a lightsaber once again and returning to a galaxy far, far away.

Are you looking forward to seeing Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan again? What Disney+ series are you excited about? Let us know in the comments!
