If you or someone you know is into secret societies, then Secret Government was made for you. This game allows the player to take control of a secret society hell-bent on taking full control over 18th century Europe. You, the leader of the cult are responsible for tons of things. Sparking riots in France, starting wars between Prussia and Austria, and much more.
The map of the trailer seems to only include parts of Europe. The Ottoman-controlled Balkans, as well as parts of Spain and Portugal, are absent too. The Americas do not appear on the map either.
This game seems to be dedicated to all the people who are obsessed with secret societies like the Illuminati or the Free Masons. If you have ever thought that the world is run by a cabal of shady and mysterious people in a smoke-filled room somewhere, now is your chance to play as them!
There is no direct reference to the Illuminatti or other secret societies aside from well know iconography. However, the game’s setting is definitely a nod to the believed origins of these cults. Additionally, it’s a cool time period. Fans of historical grand strategy games should take note.
It seems as though cunning, wit, and ruthlessness will be the key to world domination. There appear to be many different ways in which you can carry out missions. The trailer showcases cult agents who can incite riots against an uncooperative government. Or you could send someone to infiltrate the military to ignite an armed uprising against the aristocracy. You will also have to contend with other secret orders who will be vying for power as well.
Secret Government will be available for early access on Steam this October. There is no official release date yet.
