Just Dance 2020 is Coming to the Nintendo Wii for Some Reason

Just Dance, Just Why?

A little while ago, I was looking over some release dates for Nintendo games. I saw a Just Dance title coming out on the Wii. I thought, “Okay, the editor for this article needs to take make an edit here, because no one would develop a game for the Wii in 2019.” Turns out that was not a mistake. Ubisoft is actually making Just Dance 2020 for the Nintendo Wii. I thought people stopped playing it when the Wii U came out. I stopped playing it before then. My point is, who exactly is Ubisoft making this game on this platform for?

Just Dance 2020

Some people on Reddit and Twitter claim that people with mobility issues like senior citizens and patients in rehabilitation centers use the Wii for exercise. Sometimes it can be hard to have fun activities that get the body moving. Modern consoles and VR sets can get expensive, so people would donate an old Wii to those who could benefit from it. That explanation makes sense, except that’s not why it’s being developed for the Wii. It’s not untrue that that specific demographic sometimes plays Just Dance games on a Wii, but that’s not the whole story.

A representative from Ubisoft was contacted by Polygon. “It would be inaccurate to say that Just Dance is available on the Wii solely because it’s developed for physical therapy purposes. Just Dance 2020 is coming to the Wii because our audience wants it.” To be honest, that makes less sense than the former reason. Ubisoft also said they have “donated consoles and Just Dance games over the years to children’s hospitals where they use the game with patients to help with movement, exercise, rehabilitation and just for fun, bringing a smile to their faces.” I smell a conspiracy! I’m calling you out, Ubisoft! You’re doing nice things for people just so you can appear to be nice! Just Dance 2020 comes out on November 5th, 2019 on Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, Xbox One, PS4, and… the Nintendo Wii…
