The Game Will Soldier On, However
In the midst of an ongoing discussion about crunch and employee burnout, Epic Games is taking some time off. From June 24th to July 8th, the staff will be on summer vacation. This will be a new regular thing, in addition to the winter vacation the staff already takes every year.
Of course, Fortnite itself is still going strong. According to a rep from Epic Games, regular updates will still occur for the game. On top of that, the studio has measures in place to ensure that any major issues will be dealt with. So any curious or concerned players can rest easy.
With crunch and burnout slipping into the constant conversation about game development at last, we can expect more measures like this to appear. Hopefully, recent events will encourage studios to treat their workers like human beings just, all the time. Regular vacations and something approaching normal office hours can do wonders for a person’s productivity, you know.
