It Sounds like a Good Thing, but Is It?
In the shadow of Final Fantasy VII Remake, the follow-up game to the original, Final Fantasy VIII is getting remastered. Squall and company are getting a fresh makeover, but that’s not all. In a recent interview, Final Fantasy’s producer Yoshinori Kitase spoke about some of the new features coming to the remaster. Decoded by DualShockers, the new features take away some of the grinding, but from the sound of it, they take away all the challenge. Some of the Final Fantasy VIII Remastered Battle Enhancements are only for the PC version though, so for better or for worse, console players will be missing out.
Both console and PC players will have features that enable triple speed, remove random encounters, and always have have full HP, ATB Gauge, and special attacks (presumably Limit Breaks). The features exclusive to the PC version will “Acquire all Items, Abilities, Special Moves and Triple Triad cards”, “Max GF Level, Gil, and Magic”, and “Highly customizable system settings”. Some of these features will cut back on time spent grinding to get all the abilities and ultimate weapons, but they also seem like they cut out a large part of the game by doing so. Though I am not looking forward to manipulating the RNG of the Triple Triad side quest, it seems kind of unfair that all effort will be removed, that is if I am understanding these features properly.
It is also unclear why some of these features are exclusive to PC. Maybe they are meant for players returning to the game that just want to breeze through it, but that still does not explain it. No official release date for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, but it is coming out in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
