To Celebrate 20 Years Of Counter-Strike, CS:GO Will Have a Retro Dust 2 Map

It is honestly hard to believe. But Counter Stike is 20 years old. For those unaware, Counter-Strike began as a Half-Life mod on the PC. This was all the way back in 1999. The mod was a massive hit and was quickly picked up by Valve. The first official version of Counter-Strike was then released the following year in 2000. To celebrate this achievement Valve is releasing the classic map Dust 2 for CS: GO.

Dust 2 and all the different versions of this map have been a fan favorite from the game’s inception. When anyone thinks about Counter-Strike at all, it is will Dust 2 in mind. A remastered version of Dust 2 was released back in 2017, but Valve has released the retro version that can be found on the Casual Dust 2 map group. This map, much like Counter-Strike itself, has endured over the 20 years of its existence, so it is only fitting that Dust 2 is front and center for the 20th anniversary.

The map is so popular that it has even popped up in other games. Fornite to Far Cry has all mimicked the legendary map in one way or another. Chances are that even if you have never played a round of Counter-Strike in your life, you would still recognize the map.

Is Counter-Strike Still Relevant?

If for whatever reason you have never played Counter-Strike, then now is a good time to get into it. Valve has been routinely updating and polishing CS: GO. A wave of updates has been flooding into the game over the past few years. Small things like the sounds of guns being fired have been redone, as well as adding cosmetics for your in-game avatar and reworking competitive and the main menu.

Global Offensive is free to play on Steam. So give it a shot.
