New Earthworm Jim Game in the Works From Original Developers

New Earthworm Jim Will Launch Exclusively on the Intellivision Amico

An all-new Earthworm Jim game has been confirmed to be in development by members of the game’s original team. Before you get too excited, however, it is going to be exclusive to the Intellivision Amico console launching October 2020.

Ten members of the original team are reuniting to make the new game including creator Doug TenNapal, David Perry, and Tommy Tallarico. Not only is Tallarico the original composer and sound designer for the original game but he is also the CEO and President of Intellivision of Entertainment.

“We have been talking about this moment for many years,” said Tallarico upon the announcement. “It’s a dream come true to finally get the entire team back together. We’re looking forward to sharing a small part of our reunion and initial design meeting with fans from around the world.”

It’s been a long time since fans have seen a new Earthworm Jim game. The original run-and-gun platformer came out on the Sega Genesis in 1994 where it was a huge critical and commercial success. Later that year, it came to other platforms including the SNES. It was followed up with an equally-excellent sequel in 1995. A high-definition remake called Earthworm Jim HD was released by Gameloft in 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

A Twitch livestream (also on Facebook and YouTube) on Saturday, May 4th will reveal the team’s vision for the upcoming title. In addition to that, they’ll be interacting with fans and even giving away custom art. You can tune in at 2 p.m. Central time.

The Intellivision Amico console is launching on October 10, 2020. While it’s doubtful the new EJ game will release that day, fans can pick up the Sega Genesis Mini on September 19th which not includes the original game but a whole host of other classic titles.
