Rare Studio Head Says He’s Proud of What Sea of Thieves Has Become

Rare Says They’re Proud of the Evolution of Sea of Thieves

Back when it released in March 2018, Sea of Thieves became the very first newly released title to launch on the Xbox Game Pass as well. Since then the game has received numerous updates, including some major game changes and content. With the upcoming release of the one year anniversary update, Rare says they’re proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish with the game in just one year.

Sea of Thieves Sunken Curse

Rare’s Studio Head, Craig Duncan, recently spoke at London’s video game event EGX Rezzed, where he talks about the very noticeable and well-received evolution of Sea of Thieves since its launch. When discussing the work of the team at Rare and how they’ve improved the game he stated, “I am super proud of the team, because I know we ultimately did what we said we were going to do — which was to launch a game, take feedback and evolve it. But we always reserve the right to change what those plans are.”

Now as many may know Sea of Thieves is set to receive a new PvP Arena mode that will drop with the anniversary update. Duncan laid any fears that players may have about the game mode not being unique enough or that it will feel like the typical competitive game mode. “So what is a competitive game in Sea of Thieves? There’s no point in us making a competitive game that is the same as another. So for us, it’s about how we do competition in a Sea of Thieves way, in a Rare way, that feels completely different to any other competitive multiplayer game. That was the challenge we set ourselves. Then it becomes how do we iterate and evolve that.”
