‘Persona 5 S’ Is Another Kind of Persona Game on Nintendo Switch

Prepare for Persona 5 Scramble

Yesterday, the folks at Atlus teased a new, expanded version of Persona 5 for video game consoles. Persona 5 Scramble, as the new game is called, turned out to be a new project from Omega Force, the folks behind Dynasty Warriors and a few Nintendo Spin-off titles.

As it turns out, the S stood for Persona 5 Scramble all along, and it’s a musou game in which players wear the masks of the Phantom Thieves in a hack-and-slash multiverse. Revealed in a trailer from Japan, the Persona 5 spin-off title is scheduled to launch for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Ever since Persona 5 S spawned as a rumor, many Nintendo hopefuls anticipated a Switch port. Nope. The new title represents a collaboration between Atlus and Koei Tecmo, a way to expand the borders of the beloved RPG franchise. It follows in the footsteps of Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors, games that faithfully adapted the aesthetics of their source material yet were built around new battle mechanics.

In other pleasant news, Atlus finally announced Persona 5 The Royal, an overhaul of the original game set to launch in Japan this year. It includes graphical upgrades, expanded content, and additional music. Like The Royal, Scramble may not arrive in the West until sometime in 2020.
