Nintendo’s New Action Gem Gets Story Details
Ever since its reveal during the Nintendo Direct, Astral Chain, the new action game from Platinum Games, has maintained a cryptic plot. Today, however, we’ve finally received some new details.
Astral Chain will allow players to select between two characters, a male and a female. In BioWare fashion, the character you don’t choose will play your twin throughout the game. Both characters are part of the Neuron, the elite task force that comes face to face with alien threats. Along with an enthralling Cyberpunk atmosphere, extraterrestrial phenomena will pivot the movie pieces of the plot.
As with any experience from Platinum Games, combat is the core pillar. In Astral Chain, you rely on neon-lined weapons known as Legions. These sentient tools of destruction grant everything you need to annihilate threats. Though they literally shine in battle, they also serve a purpose in investigations. Apparently, the Legion is also a useful tool for detective work. From Nintendo’s own description, it sounds as if the player character and the Legion almost share a symbiotic relationship.
Astral Chain was created by Takahisa Taura, who’s making his directorial debut. Previously, he worked as a game designer for the critically acclaimed NieR: Automata. As such, we can probably expect some of that game’s influence in his new IP. The project falls under the supervision of Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Bayonetta series, with characters designed by manga artist Masakazu Katsura. Stay tuned for more updates.
Astral Chain is scheduled to arrive exclusively to the Nintendo Switch on August 30, 2019.
