Minecraft Creator Uninvited to the Game’s 10-Year Anniversary Event

Minecraft’s Upcoming Anniversary Event Won’t Include Notch

Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson won’t be invited to the game’s 10-year anniversary event that’s planned for May 17th, Microsoft told Variety recently.

“His comments and opinions do not reflect those of Microsoft or Mojang and are not representative of Minecraft,” Microsoft also said.

This decision is the latest attempt by Microsoft to distance the Minecraft franchise away from its controversial original creator.

Earlier this year, an update removed Persson’s name from the game’s splash screens. Though neither Microsoft or Mojang gave a public explanation for why his name was removed, the reason for the removal likely stemmed from his support of the QAnon conspiracy theory and a comment that supported discussions of the “IQ differences between populations”.

Persson hasn’t given a statement yet about not being invited to the anniversary event but this story will be updated if he does.
