Aaaaaaaaaaand OPEN!
When playing Borderlands, it’s all about the loot. Picking up shields, guns, grenades, and then sifting through it all. Keep what’s powerful and sell what’s valuable. That’s the life of the Vault Hunter. Even though Borderlands 3 isn’t out yet, there is still a way for fans to pick up loot. How, you ask? Well, Gearbox has something up their sleeve for their May 1st gameplay reveal event. Just by watching, you can earn some Borderlands 3 loot with the help of a new Twitch extension. In order to fully benefit from this opportunity, you should link your Twitch and SHiFT accounts.
With your accounts linked and the ECHOcast extension enabled, viewers watching the stream will be able to enter Rare Chest Events. When the streamer opens a Rare Chest, viewers will be able to opt into a raffle of sorts and get a chance to receive one of those items in that chest. If you are a lucky winner and you have chosen an item, it will be waiting for you once you retrieve it from your in-game mailbox in Borderlands 3. Maybe don’t pick it up when you’re level 1 though. The item level scales to whatever level your character is when you pick it out of your mailbox.
If all that account linking sounds complicated and tech-y, have no fear. Gearbox has laid out these steps for you:
- If you don’t have a SHiFT account, you can set one up via the SHiFT logo at the top of this site or over at the Gearbox SHiFT site. SHiFT accounts are free.
- If you don’t have a Twitch account, head over to twitch.tv and use the “Sign Up” link at the top of the page. Twitch accounts are free.
- Linking your accounts is easy. Visit the settings tab on your SHiFT profile page, click on the Twitch logo, and follow the onscreen instructions to link your account. Alternatively, sign in to your SHiFT account over at the Gearbox SHiFT site, click on “Gaming Platforms” on the left, and then click on the “Link” option under the Twitch logo. Once version 1 of the ECHOcast extension is available on May 1, you’ll also be able to use the SHiFT button in its menu to navigate to the correct SHiFT webpage and link your accounts if you haven’t done so already.
The gameplay reveal stream is on May 1st, and Borderlands 3 comes out on September 13th.
