There’s a Bit of Dramatic Irony in This Mistake
Version 1.1 of Apex Legends launched a few days ago. It added a few features like allowing individual players to be muted, inviting squadmates from previous games, and other quality of life improvements. But there was a stowaway in the code of this version update. Respawn Entertainment had plans to implement a penalty for players who leave games early. It was meant to be included in a future version, but was accidentally launched with Apex Legends update 1.1. It’s ironic that a punishment for exiting games early also came early.
A couple of days ago, Respawn jumped on Reddit and admitted that the feature was mistakenly included in the version update. They had been testing it internally, but “there was a piece of script that was missing and caused the leaving match early penalty to be turned on when it shouldn’t be. That’s why it wasn’t in the patch notes.” Players found that after every three game they left early, they would be penalized with a five minute wait before being able to join another game. On the bright side, if you aren’t a player who leaves their games early, you wouldn’t have noticed it.
This was not the only issue with the update. Some players reported having all their progress reset to level 1. Within hours, Respawn Entertainment went back and fixed it on each of the platforms. So far, they do not have an official date or update when the early exiting penalty will be implemented for real.
