[Plays that One Darude Song]
It’s been almost three months since Insurgency: Sandstorm was released on PC. If you are not familiar with the game, it is a multiplayer tactical FPS, the sequel to Insurgency, developed by New World Interactive. It appears to be a midway point between the action of Call of Duty and the teamwork of Battlefield. Insurgency: Sandstorm allows players to play as two different factions: Security and Insurgent forces. Each faction has their own respective sets of equipment and weapons. Two days ago, New World Interactive gave fans the first Insurgency: Sandstorm update. We’ll dive in to what is added for the game’s improvement.
In the patch notes on Steam, the developers start with the announcement that over half a million copies of the game have been sold. In celebration, the game will be sold for 20% off regular price, so if you have not picked it up, now is a good time. This update brings in Arcade Mode, which allows players access to future non-traditional gametypes. What this means is not that there will be a racing feature or game mode that fits outside the FPS genre, but modes that allow players to mix and match weapons and equipment from each faction. Arcade Mode is launching with a good old Team Deathmatch, but more modes to come with future updates.
Five new weapons are also added. Two sub-machine guns: MP5A2 and MP5A5 for the Insurgent and Security factions respectively. Both have low recoil, optimal for CQC. Two light-machine guns: the high-caliber M240B for Insurgent and “absurd rate of fire” MG3 for Security. The last weapon is a PF940 for the Security faction. This handgun has a high-capacity magazine of 31 rounds. You can take a look at the fine details of the patch on Steam. Insurgency: Sandstorm is on PC, but is looking to release it on PS4 and Xbox One this year.
