Lord of the Rings: Gollum Narrative-Based Action-Adventure Announced

Gollum Gets His Own Game

Happy Tolkien Reading Day! German developer Daedalic Entertainment has announced a “narrative-based action-adventure” game based on Gollum!

Lord of the Rings Gollum

The game is set to follow the story of Smeagol after he acquires the ring, but before the events of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. If it’s anything at all like the montage of the character’s transformation at the beginning of Return of the King, it’s sure to be the most harrowing and depressing Lord of the Rings game ever made.

Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter, co-founder and CEO of Daedelic Carsten Fichtelmann gave a bit of insight regarding the game’s direction: “You already have that big conflict in the character, two voices talking to you continuously, which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decision.”

The game is part of a partnership between Daedelic and Middle-earth Enterprises that could produce more titles in the Lord of the Rings universe in the future. Gollum’s current release date is set for sometime in 2021 alongside the upcoming Amazon series being made.

It’s been quite a while since Daedelic has put out a new game, their most recent release being 2016’s Deponia Doomsday. There’s also another Lord of the Rings MMO in the works with Middle-earth Enterprises’ stamp of approval as well! Let us know what you think in the comments!
