Down but not Out
The premise of a battle royale game is to be the last one standing. Usually, that means if ya dead, ya dead. That has not stopped other battle royale games from including respawns however. Last month, Treyarch announced a Blackout off-shoot that allowed players to respawn in team matches. Apex Legends also has a system that allows players to revive teammates when they go down. Other games have respawns. Why not Zoidberg? Fortnite? What would it take to get us some Fortnite respawning?
Respawning is the difference between battle royale and team deathmatch. How does a game keep players in longer than ten minutes and still have the charm and pressure of BR? That is what Epic Games is asking itself. In a Reddit AMA, users have asked about respawning. An Epic Games producer said that they are and have been considering the feature. “We’ve been considering this mechanic for a while and have been exploring it. Want to make sure we give it the time it needs and fully understand its impact on the game as a whole. Look for further updates during Season 8.”
We are two months deep into Fortnite’s seventh season. Since each season lasts two or three months, season eight should be just around the corner. As they said, “Look for further updates during Season 8.” That does not mean respawning will be implemented in season eight. Epic Games might just have a definitive answer for players or an announcement that they will be trying something out. Who knows?
What do you think? Will respawning change the game too much? Let us know in the comments below. And be sure to keep up to date with all our Fortnite news on our site.
