‘Left Alive’ Gameplay looks like a Metal Gear Throwback

A Bit More of That OG Third-Person Gameplay

Square Enix decided to dip their toes into a classic pool of video games with Left Alive. Their new IP is helmed by creators of Metal Gear fame, and some of that shows in the previews. Speaking of which, the publisher has dropped another look into the game’s campaign.

Left Alive follows the journey of three different characters as they wade through the rubble and hostile militants of Nova Slava. The game gets its overworld directly from the Front Mission series, a mech franchise that existed back in the old days of Square. As you can see, the series has since been revived as an amalgamation of stealth-action gameplay and mech combat. The ratio of third-person action and mech inclusion remains up in the air.

Here are 14 minutes of Left Alive gameplay through the eyes of all three characters.

Naturally, they had to end it with a bout of mech combat. As you may have noticed in this trailer—and many others—the third-person missions rely extensively on the use of grenades. They suit many purposes and gets players where they need to go. Along with various throwing projectiles, players can craft traps to evade the many patrols in the city. We have yet to see how elaborate the crafting system really is.

Left Alive hits the PlayStation 4 and Steam on March 5th, 2019. Special edition copies are available now at the Square Enix Store.
